A norwigan company that rents car has a few older moddels where they put a key box onto the side of the car to put the car keys. The problem is that the screen dosent work when it gets snowy and the screen gets a layer of ice and salt from the road. It was also very slippery to open because the keybox dosent have any grip.
They needed a box to protect the keybox screen and make it easy dfor customers to open the box. We talked a lot back and forth about how the box should be designed in form of streangth, simpisety to use, how it worked and how much it protected. We ended upp on box with a lid on the front.
The box went around the sides and back of the keybox with space inside to put your fingers inbetween to open the keybox. The lid was connected with a metall rood as the hinge and locked it in place with a heat ineart on one of the sides. This locked the rood in place. I also put a smal lip on the bottom of the lid so it can be easely opend. Because i had to take in fact that the car could be driving upp to 110km/h. Therfor i putt a strog magnet at the bottum of the lidd and box. I made a whole to put the magnet in on both parts, put the magnet inn after 3d printing the parts and than covering the hole in uv resin that is a liquid that hardens when you take uv light on it. This locked the magnet in place. I tried putting it inside while 3d printing but this ended upp white a crack because of the material i printed in.
All of this took a lot of prototypes. How i was going to put the magnet and metal rood inside the box took a lot of thinking and even more testing out different ideas until i landed on this idea that has worked perfectaly.
